The work is made
in the listening.

A bench without a catalogue of personalities

The patron brings a use, not a list of adjectives. A maker asks what should happen when the work misunderstands, when a source is absent and when it should fall silent. Those questions enter the tuning book before a pleasing demonstration does.

A quiet answer is not automatically a wise one. Each adjustment records the observation it was meant to address. Rejected adjustments remain in the notebook, so a later custodian can distinguish an intentional pause from a defect.

Signature and plate

The maker signs the completed configuration and its use boundary. The plate identifies the work; it does not contain a transferable operating permission. Altering the configuration without a new review breaks the correspondence between plate, notebook and current behaviour.

Continuing care

A repair visit begins by comparing the present configuration with the signed record. We do not call every intervention restoration. Where a material change is needed, it receives a dated addition to the notebook and a new scope review.
